Dr Laura Murphy (MBChB)

Qualifications

I qualified in a bachelors of Medicine and Surgery from The University of Manchester (United Kingdom) in 2005 and have over 15 years’ experience as a medical doctor.

I was a member of The Royal College of Psychiatrists and worked as a consultant perinatal psychiatrist for the UK National Health System (NHS).

I have my 200-hour yoga teacher accreditation with Yoga Alliance, and my 500-hour yoga therapy accreditation with The British Council of Yoga Therapy. I am also a qualified pregnancy yoga teacher and a level 1 Breath Body Mind practitioner.

I have training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, psychodynamic interpersonal therapy, mentalization based treatment and cognitive behavioural therapy.

I qualified in Medical Education from Edge Hill University and I was a communication skills trainer for medical students.

I have completed the Prescribing Lifestyle Medicine course, accredited by The Royal College of General Practitioners and have a diploma in Lifestyle Medicine accredited by the International Board of Lifestyle Medicine.

I first started practising yoga in my early twenties, when I discovered first hand how beneficial it was in managing anxiety and improving physical and mental wellbeing.  I wanted to share this with the patients that I worked with in the NHS and so qualified as a yoga teacher and therapist. I ran a yoga therapy group for women in the Manchester community perinatal mental health service who were suffering from a wide range of conditions including anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, bipolar disorder and psychosis.

Using my unique combination of skills, I now work holistically with clients like you to improve your physical and mental health, so that you can live a full and satisfying life. I coach and advise clients to optimise the major pillars of health and wellbeing, supporting clients to improve stress management, sleep, nutrition, exercise, social connectedness and purpose, weaving in my knowledge and skills from working as a Lifestyle Medicine Practitioner, Psychiatrist and Yoga Therapist. With my background as a medical doctor, I can work with clients suffering with physical or mental health conditions, enabling you to restore your health, thrive and grow.

Optimising the major pillars of health have greatly enriched my own life. In my leisure time, I can be found hiking in the Costa Rican jungle, swimming in the local river, practicing yoga, enjoying delicious plant-based food and larking around with my children Sebastian and Chloe!
